Dartford Ju Jitsu Club and the senior instructor, shihan John Griffiths, 7th Dan, hosted an informal seminar for the instructors, black belts and senior grades on 11 June 2006. The day was one of the hottest this year, but there was a good turn out. All instructors had an opportunity to demonstrate techniques to other high grades.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Sensei Nick Brooks, 4th Dan, Mill Hill Ju Jitsu Club, and some of his students, have been very successful in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition.
LATEST FROM BRAZIL: Sensei Nick Brooks was one of only three fighters from the UK who took part in the recent Masters and Seniors 2006 Brazilian Ju Jitsu competitiion in Brazil. Four and a half months of dedicated training paid off and Sensei Nick won Gold in the Featherweight Division, a hard fight all the way. In the semi final Sensei Nick choked out Marcelo Maia in 4 min 10 secs and in the final, he beat Victor Auler from Brazilian Top Team on points, almost winning by an arm bar submission. Way to go, Sensei Nick!
Oliver Bruh from Mill Hill Ju Jitsu Club won a bronze medal in the Gracie European Invitational Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament on 6 May 2006. On 7 May 2006, Sensei Nick Brooks won a gold in the U.66kg division of the Urban Gorillaz European Submission Wrestling Championship, submitting every opponent, and finishing the final in 40 seconds, despite having a broken finger.

In 2004, Sensei Nick won a gold medal at 73kg at the London Open. He also won a gold at the Abu Dhabi Championships on 17 December.
In 2005, Sensei Nick won gold at the European Invitational Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship at the NEC, Birmingham on 23 April. He went on to win yet another gold at the 2nd European Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Lisbon, Portugal on 30 June. Sensei Nick's students, Hal Bent, Lubormir Repasky and Daniel Strauss entered the Combat Academy's Groundfighting Championship in Hereford on 30 October 2005. All won medals. Of particular note Daniel, who is only 14, won a silver medal against heavier and older boys as there was no competition for his weight category. He defeated a previous gold medallist along the way. Great Stuff, Daniel.

Guiness World Record
On Saturday 23 February 2002 at Esporta in Chiswick, West London, Dale Moore and Nigel Townsend, both 5th Dan of Hampton Ju Jitsu Club, and their teams attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the most judo throws performed in one hour, set at 1418 throws by a Belgian judo club on 21 October 2000. We are pleased to say that, as officially confirmed by the GWR, Dale Moore and Nigel Townsend completed 3,786 throws, thus thoroughly smashing the record. The record remains unchallenged.
